This beautiful Italian liner was launched in July 1884 by A. McMillan & Son Dumbarton for "Societa Rocco Piaggio & Figli," shipping company based in Genoa since 1870, who operated a line to South America. The ship made its maiden voyage from Genoa on 1 December 1884, arriving in Montevideo on December 17. From there, he won Buenos Aires port end of the line. It is a comfort and a vessel which is particularly fast on the line, speed reaching 16 knots. In July 1885, the great company Navigazione Generale Italiana takes over and keeps Rocco Piaggio the ship on the same line until 1898. At that time, the ship is fitted on the Egyptian company until 1903 when he found the waters of the South Atlantic. It differs from it in 1910, the ship becomes the property of Societa Nazionale di Servizi Maritime.

It was during the Italo-Turkish War (October 1911-December 1912) that the ship is transformed into a hospital ship by the Order of Malta. During the conflict, he made seven trips Libya-Italy, bringing 1,162 soldiers wounded.

It was demolished in 1913.
