The city of Strasbourg is dominated by the steeple of the Cathedral. Peaking at 142 meters, the tip is visible from all points of the city. It was the tallest building in the world until 1874, and remains the second highest cathedral in France.
Built between 1176 and 1439 on a site occupied by temples since at least Roman times (with a temple dedicated to Mars), it reflects the Gothic style of the time.
